Filming Log - Session 2 - Smith's Field, Altrincham

We recorded a small percentage of our footage on the 29th of December 2017 on Smith's Field in Tiperley. We met at 12pm and then started our filming around 10 minumtes or so later after discussing what we were going to be doing, where we were going to stand, which shots we would be using and setting the camera up.

Throughout the shoot we filmed many different shots at different angles and various places within the location to help gain the best possible scenes with the use of the best natural lighting possible to fit with the genre conventions. We wanted to video to look highly professional and also match the narrative of the Bathes code and binary oppositions of locations which will take place later on. This was all based off our story board and also the order of the shots which we decided to do in order to help portray the image we were trying to create. Furthermore, due to the different shots we wanted in chronological order that we had wrote down and prepared helped us to save time overall. It also made us aware of what actions and band members were needed in each of the different shots

Furthermore, in preparation for the shots we started filming a couple of seconds prior to the actual shot and around 3-4 seconds after aswell. We did this so that we could gain the right shot and position aswell as helping us out when we edit the footage. We can select the correct bits which we want to use and make sure that they are at the standard which we want them to be at. More impartsnyly this will help us having shot continuity when we come to edit the final product as we can select all the different clips we want to use and piece them together in order and also cut parts from the start and end of the clip to gain the right images. This will help us avoid missing out on any lip syncing parts in the clip aswell as being able to gain more clips if they need to be used

Moreover, throughout the filming sessions we tried to highlight all the different Britpol conventions through the use of clothing and props. This was done by using a tracking shot to follow the footwear of our actors aswell as close ups of the brand logo centr of the frame to portray importance. This also connotes the genre very highly due to fashion being valued within the genre. Close up shots were also taken of the guitar to highlight its importance with in the song as the majority of the song is based off the use of this instrument aswell as it being used predominantly in different oasis songs. We also portrayed the conventions through our location choices by trying to create an urban perspective. The location itself has many tram tracks which highlight the urban qualities it has and also the artificial strutcturing which surrounds it. This also helped show the genre conventions which were used to create the idea that the main singing was superior to the other individuals in the shot. This was mainly done by putting Luke the main singer at the front of all the shots with the other actors in the background.

Lastly, we finished the session at around 2:30 pm gather all the different shots we needed and also spent 15 minutes at the end of the session discussing how we can make it better for next time when we do our other filming sessions and also things we can do to add to this

Most importantly this post helped us to reflect on what we did during our filming session and what we can also do to make it better. We have also found which camera shots we have used more of and which shots we need to use more of, It will help benefit us in the editing stage as we will be able to refer back to this post to help us put together the shots which need to be used. We placed as many conventions in as possible to make it look as professional and realistic as possible.
