Target Audience Identification

The target audience of Britpop is highly varied from people in their teenage years 16- early 20's and then people who were born during the birth of Britpop music (35-45 year old). Britpop music is such a highly varied age group that it is hard to identify as there has been a revival of the music during the last decade where many people have started to listen to it again. This is mainly due to The Stone Roses tour and also Liam Gallagher's new tour and album, with more music coming from Noel Gallagher in the foreseeable future. Within Britpop music there is no specific Gender that the music is aimed at but the predominant sex which listen to their style of music is males, this is ultimately down to the fact that all the bands that are featured in the industry are all males. Richard Dyer star theory

Firstly, Richard Dyer's star theory is the idea that institutions for their financial gain manufacture icons and celebrities. He also believes that stars are constructed to represent 'real people' experiencing real emotions. Stars are manufactured by the music industry to serve a purpose and to initially make money out of the audience CONSTRUCT:  Stars are artificial images constructed by the media and the representations that media portrays and feeds to the audience. This includes magazines, films, advertising or shows. Every time, the media can construct particular image of a star and use this to their advantage. Therefore, the audience never really meets the real star, however as a viewer, we want to believe that the representation/ construction is the real person, even if often that is not the case. Oasis are represented very positively across numerous Media boards. However, both Noel and Liam Gallagher are disliked by many people within the music industry. This is due to the fact that they are can be very arrogant and also many people are jealous of the fact that they have dominated the music industry for many years. Their audience however adore both Noel and Liam for their swagger and style, it is evident to see why as they are both unique and different in their own ways.  The Audience of the Britpop genre are a range from 20-40 year old, mainly male individuals. They wear many clothes such as bright clothing and trainers. They are mostly from the lower class and have normal jobs such as: Builders, engineers and tradesmen.
