Institutional information to use - Digipak Planning

Image
Within a digipak there must be information on both the institution and producers of the CD. From researching and looking through different magazine adverts and dikipaks I have found some of the must important pieces of information to include: -        - Firstly, the name of the record company is one of the most important pieces of information as it informs people who helped to produce the music. -        - Sometimes the names of the band members and the roles that they have in the band are included -        - It should include where the song was produced and created. -        - There should also be a section on the individuals who helped to create the designs and photographers. -        - The key institutional information should include the management of the band.

Connotations of Albums and Magazine articles - Digipak planning

Image
Through studying the titles of different Albums and magazine articles within the Brit pop genre I have discovered many ideas which will help us to decide on the title which we will use on our own digipak. This will be one of the first things which people can view on the front so we need to make it clear within the title and picture what our genre is and display the connotations.

Edting Log - Session 5

Firstly, in our latest session we listened to feedback which we had been given from the fourth session. This is due to the fact that our target was to include more band member shots. However, the group agreed and got rid of this target as we had a time restraint and both me and Luke had work later on that evening. Instead we decided that it would be more beneficial to lip sync the part of Luke singing the corus to the end of the song. We left some gaps in order to inlude other shots including ones of then band together later on. We made this decision to do this as it was best to get the hardest part of our work out of the way and then fix the smaller things in the later sessions which will gradually bring up our marks but also help make the video relative to the narrative.  Some negatives which we took away from the session was that Luke's lip syncing did not match the lyrics of the song so therefore we needed to change some of it so it that it would work together. Furthermore, w

Conventions of a Digipak

Image
Firstly, a digipak is the layer around the a CD case which supplies information on the band, their record label and also song names which are featured on the CD. Britpop genre use Digipaks to display their new albums but in a unique way which is different to other genres. Furthermore, throughout carrying out lots of research and investigating different Britpop digipaks i found that the genre all has a very familiar link which runs throughout their CD covers, this is that all the band members are included on the front cover. In Oasis' album 'Be here now' it displays what the band are about and their child-like behaviour with the shot of various items thrown into a swimming pool with the band members standing around. The main aim of this is to create the feeling of togetherness and also portray the British Qualities as the main colours used in the digipak are blue, red and white.  On the other hand, when i researched this subject in further detail i found out

Editing Feedback- session 5

Image
The feedback that we gathered from session 4 we changed due to not agreeing  on it as a group to help benefit us in the long term. This target however will be prioritised in further  sessions as we will include more shots of the band members on their own but also together as a group. The reason for this prioritisation was so that we could concentrate on the smaller aspects such as this in the last session where we make the smaller changes. Moreover, the improvements which we still need to make are to sort the shots to make them shorter and closer together. We are doing this to create flash shots but also there is many shots which display a black screen in between each other which we need to change so the shots flow smoothly and make it more professional.

The feedback that we received was positive and stated that they enjoyed the variety of techniques in which we used. Additionally, the liked the use of conventions, narratives and the way we displayed a story within the video. They however said that they feel as if there should be more band member shots (both on our own and also as a group) and this is due to Luke is in the majority of the shots as he is the main character which we used. Although Luke is the main singer and is normal for him to be in the forefront of the shots there is still a very uneven display of band members which we need to work on in our net session.

Editing Log- Sesssion 4

In this session we were all there to help and the main focus in this session was to get as many shots as possible into the music video, which included several angles of the band members and Luke and Lucy both lip syncing. The idea was to piece together the smaller shots so that we completed the chorus of the song as this part of our video was incomplete. Learning on our mistakes and overcoming difficulties i found that this session was actually very successful and enabled us to complete the parts which we had aimed to do within the limited amount of time.  Moreover, we used several different tools on Final Cut Pro such as cutting the shots down to gather the correct parts of the clip. We also used the blade tool to create continuity from shot to shot and also tasking out the sound of the clip which isn't required. Furthermore, we tried to carefully create a relationship between the beat of the music and the visuals which was one of Goodwin's ideas. We created this by

Editing - Feedback session 3

The feedback that we received was very positive considering what we had edited. Within the beginning of the music video the shots were varied and helped to establish the setting which we were praised for. It was also said that it informed our audience on our narrative and the setting which highlighted qualities of a Britpop music video including conventions. This will help is in the future as we know that we will not have to make any more changes to our introduction due to gathering such positive feedback. In the next editing sessiom, our group will focus on adding more shots of Lucy as well as also adding different shots of Luke lip syncing in the band. The target is to do this as well as trying not to give away too much of Lucy's identity. We also pieced together many of the shots trying to make the lip syncing much better and making sure that it matches our non-diegetic sound of the audio of the song.

Editing Log - Session 3

Within this Editing session Luke was unable to attend due to him having a University interview which left me and Jack to make the changes which our audience had identified in our last editing feedback. Throughout the session we added more shots into the start and cut some of the shots so that they did no show Lucy's facial features but also make some of the other shots sharper. We also added in different shots in between  Luke and Lucy in order to create more continuity and allow the music video to flow properly.  We also used the blade tool to split the shots in parts we wanted to use elsewhere and pieced the other clips together alongside other shots to allow the video to be understood more easily. We also used trimming tool to cut down different shots which we thought were too short and allow specific parts of the video to stand out from the rest as well as removing the 3 seconds before and after. The session of feedback which we explained to Luke was basically adding more

Editing session - Feedback 2

This editing was done by Luke and he gained important audience feedback which has allowed us to make sure myself and Jack know what changes we can do next time whilst Luke is on a University interview day. We all showed the same people which we showed our video to last time and they highlighted that we should continue on what we are doing as it is good but some of the cuts need to be sharper and shorter when including Lucy to make sure her facial features are hidden from the audience at the start as it is the main part of our narrative in creating the enigma effect. We will take this advice on board and throughly check the make these changes.

Editing Log- Session 2

Throughout this editing session Jack and I could not attend due to work commitments but Luke continued with the feedback that we were given by our main audience to make sure we were following their advice. Luke started this by piecing the start of the music video in time with the lyrics due to it needing lots of work. He also added in many different shots in between these of the mysterious girl which was Lucy Carter aswell as more shots of Luke himself. We used the blade tool to dissect the shots of what we needed and what we didn't so that any of the unnecessary clips. We also trimmed down the clips to gather the correct parts accurately as well as removing diegetic sound of the surrounding during the original clips which we used.  Furthermore, Luke used many different clips of himself from different angles to create a thorough representation of the genre when recording> We also did this when we were editing the sections which Lucy was used in which helped to include Goodwi

Editing Session- Feedback 1

In the video is what i have edited so far with the help of the ideas from both Jack and Luke as well as my own which i though about from last year. This was the first part of the editing which we had completed and we asked for feedback off of family members and friends to help us identify which areas could be improved. Most of the individuals which we interviewed suggested that the work on the lip syncing needed more work and we needed to use more shots to cover the parts which are not in sync. We will use the advice to our advantage as we have many shots which we can use to cover these errors and we are still trying to make sure that it includes the Britpop conventions and doesn't go off track.

Editing Log- Session 1

In the first session of editing we mainly focused on uploading our content onto the mac and then onto final cut pro x so that we could start piecing the different clips together. It took around around 15 to 20 minutes to upload on to final cut pro due to many of the shots taking longer to process than others. After the content from our SD had finally been uploaded we began to download off a MP3 download. Thus took only a couple of minutes and we then added it to our film footage as a backing track.  Once we had downloaded all our content we then were ready to match close ups of Luke Mckendry lip syncing to the actual audio of the song. Using many different shots and also precisely matching the footage in timing to the audio which made it look as if Luke was singing the song. We spent the lesson breaking up the shots, cutting them down using all the different tools Final Cut has to offer. Luke and Jack put their ideas forward of which shots looked the best and which parts of the song

Filming Log- Session 4- King George's Lake

Image
On the 13th of January 2018 we started to film the last part of the music video with the 'mysterious girl' Lucy Carter at King George's Lake in Altrincham. We met at the location at around 1:15pm due to other commitments elsewhere. Afterwards, the group then discussed what we thought was expected of Lucy and then we also debated about which shot types that we needed to use and also different location shots to match our narrative and genre types. Additionally, we reviewed the storyboard and lyrics sheet to make sure that we stayed on track. Moreover, in order to create mystery we got Lucy to walk to the front of the lake whilst not showing her face. We did this using several different shot types that we had taken and reviewed. We also used shots such as tracking, point of view, low angle, medium shots. This helped to depict the mystery of this 'new girl' in the video.Within these shots we are also using the enigma code by building up the suspense. These final shots
