Editing Log- Sesssion 4

In this session we were all there to help and the main focus in this session was to get as many shots as possible into the music video, which included several angles of the band members and Luke and Lucy both lip syncing.

The idea was to piece together the smaller shots so that we completed the chorus of the song as this part of our video was incomplete. Learning on our mistakes and overcoming difficulties i found that this session was actually very successful and enabled us to complete the parts which we had aimed to do within the limited amount of time.

Moreover, we used several different tools on Final Cut Pro such as cutting the shots down to gather the correct parts of the clip. We also used the blade tool to create continuity from shot to shot and also tasking out the sound of the clip which isn't required. Furthermore, we tried to carefully create a relationship between the beat of the music and the visuals which was one of Goodwin's ideas. We created this by piecing together many quick cuts which switched from two different shots to exaggerate the sound of the instruments in the video.

Lastly, we made a huge change in making our video suit the genre conventions which were shown. Using the correct shots and emphasising the narrative of binary opposition (urban vs rural) we made our video much easier to follow and allowed Enigma to also be created as Lucy's face is not completely covered but neither can you see it. This was a use of Barthes' codes as the audience will now question and wonder who this mystery girl is and question what the meaning of the lyrics actually are.
