Filming Log- Session 4- King George's Lake

On the 13th of January 2018 we started to film the last part of the music video with the 'mysterious girl' Lucy Carter at King George's Lake in Altrincham. We met at the location at around 1:15pm due to other commitments elsewhere. Afterwards, the group then discussed what we thought was expected of Lucy and then we also debated about which shot types that we needed to use and also different location shots to match our narrative and genre types. Additionally, we reviewed the storyboard and lyrics sheet to make sure that we stayed on track.

Moreover, in order to create mystery we got Lucy to walk to the front of the lake whilst not showing her face. We did this using several different shot types that we had taken and reviewed. We also used shots such as tracking, point of view, low angle, medium shots. This helped to depict the mystery of this 'new girl' in the video.Within these shots we are also using the enigma code by building up the suspense. These final shots took around 40 minutes but we were there for around an hour due to discussing which positions to stand in and different angles to use.

Furthermore, before we left we made sure that all the shots worked together and actually promoted continuity of the shots of Lucy on the waterfront. We recorded Lucy on a small platform on the waterfront, by doing this we tried to integrate Goodwin's theory in order to display her emotions through the use of the visuals. We also decided that the song signifies that she is angry about the circumstances. We also decided to add close-ups of facial features in order to create the idea of enigma and also portray Lucy's identity to the audience. There were also many establishing shots taken of her on the waterfront to exaggerate the binary opposition in which we were trying to create (urban vs rural) areas which helped to convey due to the substantial differences they can't be together.

This was the final filming session which ultimately meant that editing was to come next. In the future this post can be reflected upon to help our editing stages when we are trying to create the conventions and images to portray our narrative.
