Final Digipak

Magazine Advert - Digipak

Image
Below is my first Magazine Advert draft which I made, through making this I then knew how to use several effects such as colour isolation and also how to include different fonts and logos for my work. I was unhappy with the colours within this draft and therefore went back and changed it. After speaking with my target audience they suggested that it would look much better if we were all in black and white rather than how it is in this image.

Split screen

Image
In order to increase the creativity of our music video we have been watching many videos on how to improve certain sections. One of the main changes we made was to include a split screen due to this being one of the most iconic moments within the 'Wonderwall' music video. In order to create this effect we firstly used the crop method so that we could get two different perspectives within the same shot. This was perfect in order to display Lucy and Luke walking towards each other and at the end they finally meet. We are also using this feature as a way to portray the idea that they are constantly searching for one another. Furthermore, by watching many YouTube videos and increasing our knowledge on this feature we found the crop and masking effect would be most appropriate in order to create the black line in between the two shots

Practice images/photoshoot- Digipak planning

Image
On the weekend, we went into Altrincham town centre with the band and took images together in different locations which we will use for the digipak. We used Jack's camera as a way to gain more HD images which will make the final product more appealing. However, when we import these images and put them onto our blogs this reduces the quality and we will have to take this into consideration when editing the pictures. Below are some of the best images that we took at the different locations, in order to be fair we made sure that we had 3 perfect shots which we could use so that nobody's images were better than the others in the group as that would be unfair. We took many different shots from all different angles trying to find the perfect angle and lighting to use to make sure the pictures were of the highest quality. We are totally uncertain which shots we will use for our final cover but we have narrowed it down to a few shots so we will be talking to our target audience in or

What is found on a Magazine Advert

Image
Through research we found that Album advertisements within Magazines consist of images the Artists, the name of the band, the date in which it will be released and also reviews This information is then seen and rehearsed by the audience every time they see the cover. Through keeping the magazine subtle and low-key has a much diverse effect on the audience as they will be intrigued to find out more about the album itself.  I will use this research to my advantage as i have created an idea of what i can include in my advert. It is common for star reviews to be seen on the front of the magazine cover and this helps drive sales as it shows the positive reviews in which it has already gained.

Experimenting with fonts and Logos

Image
Pictured below are just some of the different styles of fonts that I have tried to create for the logo of our band so that I can check with our target audience and find out which font is best suited for our band name. I used different designs of the logo based on the font but through research I found that black and white is the most commonly used colour so therefore I will be using this in each font. This research will help me in the future as I can chose one of these logos to decide which one to use for the front cover of the digipak but most importantly it has allowed me to increase my knowledge on how to use different tools on Serif PhotoPlus which I will use when conducting my Digipak.

Font Research - Digipak Planning

Image
The Oasis logo is very simplistic, bold but eye-catching. Even though it is only in black and white it stands out and is therefore highly reflective of how the band are in person. They are also going against the conventions of a stereotypical logo by using all lower case letters. Moreover, it highlights to their audience that they are more than just a Britpop band and are much different to others in the industry. Pulp are another example of the lower case trend in which was evident during the Britpop era. In a study carried out they found lower case lettering is easier to read and psychologically audiences feel closer to lowercase woodmarks which evidently increases perceptions of band friendliness. Oasis and Pulp may have used this in their logos as people will create a psychological bond through their logo and also help them to gather a wider audience. For these reasons we will be using lower case lettering within our own Digipak as it makes it easier to be seen and creates a po

Colour Isolation research

Image
In order to make our music video convey some of the features which were used by Oasis we needed to practice and learn how to utilise these techniques. We developed our knowledge by watching YouTube videos and the video below describes perfectly how to isolate certain colours which you want to stand out. We have applied this to our opening sequence of our music video by highlighting the most obvious objects in each clip such as the guitar and glasses. Colour isolation ultimately helps to exaggerate the conventions of our video but more importantly it is used in the Wonderwall music video to highlight the clowns blue hat.

Initial Ideas - Digipak Planning

My idea for the poster ancillary task is to highlight the idea that Luke is the main band member within our group and this is evident through the colour isolation as his body is all isolated however for myself and Jack i only colour isolated our faces and hands which portrays we are the backing singers and also guitarist/drummer.  Within my DIgipak i have many shots of myself and Jack to highlight the importance of the other band members but also just like Oasis for many of their own shots it was only them two pictured. Moreover, the use of Swan highlights several ideas. The main factor is that Swans portray love and eternity and within our song 'Wonderwall' the song is about a man trying to rekindle his love and the idea of the swan conveys this perfectly. The colour isolation helps to show that the Swan is alone just like the lyrics in the song but it also helps to fir with the theme of my Digipak.  For my Advert Magazine i will be including lots of institutional informat

Final Music Video edit

Editing feedback for our final rough edit

Image
This video shows  the specific information which we were given by our audience to help us make our music video even better, we also asked other people their opinion on our video and everyone else also suggested that we definitely need to improve the lip syncing. This is due to the fact that it is not in time and can be edited easily to make sure we change it so that it looks more professional. Besides this minor change we were given positive feedback on our music video and that they enjoyed both the introduction and ending where we included  small parts of the live performance.

Location research - Digipak Planning

Image
Our Digipak needs multiple shots on both the front and back cover of the digipak, we therefore needed to take multiple shots both in  urban and rural areas. We were planning to display the binary opposition of our CD within the pictures we take. The front cover will consist of a shot of an urban area displaying these features so we will go to Altrincham to gain these shots. On the other hand we will have shots from rural areas to show the difference between the two places. We may use some of these images for our final Digipak product but if they are not up to standard we will go to take some more pictures and learn from the mistakes we made. We need to make sure the lighting, shot angle and posing is perfect in order to gather the best possible shots.  We have taken several pictures in all of these different locations and from them we will decide which ones we will use for our final and most importantly suit our convention. Our aim was to create and urbanize the shots we used, this

Draft layout of digipak

Image
We have made a template of the digipak that we will create and i have labellled each of the sections which it will contain and the image it will have (front cover and back cover). This will help us a group in the future as it will make it easier to put the images we have taken and edited onto the template as we already have a platform to use and then also label the spines on the side with the name of the album or band.

Institutional information to use - Digipak Planning

Image
Within a digipak there must be information on both the institution and producers of the CD. From researching and looking through different magazine adverts and dikipaks I have found some of the must important pieces of information to include: -        - Firstly, the name of the record company is one of the most important pieces of information as it informs people who helped to produce the music. -        - Sometimes the names of the band members and the roles that they have in the band are included -        - It should include where the song was produced and created. -        - There should also be a section on the individuals who helped to create the designs and photographers. -        - The key institutional information should include the management of the band.

Connotations of Albums and Magazine articles - Digipak planning

Image
Through studying the titles of different Albums and magazine articles within the Brit pop genre I have discovered many ideas which will help us to decide on the title which we will use on our own digipak. This will be one of the first things which people can view on the front so we need to make it clear within the title and picture what our genre is and display the connotations.

Edting Log - Session 5

Image
Firstly, in our latest session we listened to feedback which we had been given from the fourth session. This is due to the fact that our target was to include more band member shots. However, the group agreed and got rid of this target as we had a time restraint and both me and Luke had work later on that evening. Instead we decided that it would be more beneficial to lip sync the part of Luke singing the corus to the end of the song. We left some gaps in order to inlude other shots including ones of then band together later on. We made this decision to do this as it was best to get the hardest part of our work out of the way and then fix the smaller things in the later sessions which will gradually bring up our marks but also help make the video relative to the narrative.  Some negatives which we took away from the session was that Luke's lip syncing did not match the lyrics of the song so therefore we needed to change some of it so it that it would work together. Furthermore, w

Conventions of a Digipak

Image
Firstly, a digipak is the layer around the a CD case which supplies information on the band, their record label and also song names which are featured on the CD. Britpop genre use Digipaks to display their new albums but in a unique way which is different to other genres. Furthermore, throughout carrying out lots of research and investigating different Britpop digipaks i found that the genre all has a very familiar link which runs throughout their CD covers, this is that all the band members are included on the front cover. In Oasis' album 'Be here now' it displays what the band are about and their child-like behaviour with the shot of various items thrown into a swimming pool with the band members standing around. The main aim of this is to create the feeling of togetherness and also portray the British Qualities as the main colours used in the digipak are blue, red and white.  On the other hand, when i researched this subject in further detail i found out

Wonderwall - Rough Edit

Editing Feedback- session 5

Image
The feedback that we gathered from session 4 we changed due to not agreeing  on it as a group to help benefit us in the long term. This target however will be prioritised in further  sessions as we will include more shots of the band members on their own but also together as a group. The reason for this prioritisation was so that we could concentrate on the smaller aspects such as this in the last session where we make the smaller changes. Moreover, the improvements which we still need to make are to sort the shots to make them shorter and closer together. We are doing this to create flash shots but also there is many shots which display a black screen in between each other which we need to change so the shots flow smoothly and make it more professional.

Editing session- Feedback 4

Image
The feedback that we received was positive and stated that they enjoyed the variety of techniques in which we used. Additionally, the liked the use of conventions, narratives and the way we displayed a story within the video. They however said that they feel as if there should be more band member shots (both on our own and also as a group) and this is due to Luke is in the majority of the shots as he is the main character which we used. Although Luke is the main singer and is normal for him to be in the forefront of the shots there is still a very uneven display of band members which we need to work on in our net session.
