oasis representation

Image
Oasis are represented very positively across numerous Media boards. However, both Noel and Liam Gallagher are disliked by many people within the music industry. This is due to the fact that they are can be very arrogant and also many people are jealous of the fact that they have dominated the music industry for many years. Their audience however adore both Noel and Liam for their swagger and style, it is evident to see why as they are both unique and different in their own ways.  The Audience of the Britpop genre are a range from 20-40 year old, mainly male individuals. They wear many clothes such as bright clothing and trainers. They are mostly from the lower class and have normal jobs such as: Builders, engineers and tradesmen. The reception theory suggests that producers construct a text encoded with hidden meaning that the producers want to convey across to the audience. The genre conveys usually messages through drinking and drugs this may be something that the audience can r

Target Audience Identification

Image
The target audience of Britpop is highly varied from people in their teenage years 16- early 20's and then people who were born during the birth of Britpop music (35-45 year old). Britpop music is such a highly varied age group that it is hard to identify as there has been a revival of the music during the last decade where many people have started to listen to it again. This is mainly due to The Stone Roses tour and also Liam Gallagher's new tour and album, with more music coming from Noel Gallagher in the foreseeable future. Within Britpop music there is no specific Gender that the music is aimed at but the predominant sex which listen to their style of music is males, this is ultimately down to the fact that all the bands that are featured in the industry are all males. However, there are many females who listen to this type of music as it is very calming and relaxing. The main Ethnicity which Britpop is aimed at is evidently British. However mainly people from all over

Full Analysis of Wonderwall music video

Image
This is a performance based video. This is clear because all the band members are a part of this video and there are some close ups of the artists, however, there is no audience involved in this video. The video begins with a shot of a pretty empty room, the room is in black and white and this immediately creates a relaxed and serene tone. Throughout the video different iconography is used, for example; guitars, drums etc. these particular props are often associated with this genre. They commonly appear within indie music videos and are therefore stereotypically anchored to this type of music and the type of people that make this type of music. The close ups are used as according to Andrew Goodwin's theory, the label record demand close ups. The camerawork is very simple and doesn't use any fancy camera shots or angles and this is because of the fact it links into the simple narrative of the video. There is an interesting use of a vinyl record player th

Oasis Artist Analysis

Image
Throughout the duration of Oasis’ activity within the music industry many branding strategies were used in order to appeal and relate to the target audience, ultimately contributing to the success of the band. When constructing the branding and image of Oasis many factors were to be taken into consideration to create an impact to engage with the target audience. These factors would include the way in which the bands core values were reflected in the name of the band, the logo and promotional photographs. After  initially identifying Oasis’ target audience as 18 to 40 year old Englishmen the next step was to maximize the engagement from the preferred reading, in order for them to remain loyal and increase the number of consumers of which fell into the target audience category. They also created a new image to Britpop, such as the 'bad-boy' and very serious front. Their new contrast to the the strereotypical Britpop view helped them to become one of the greatest bands in both

Roland Barthes- codes

Image
The Hermeneutic Code:  Refers to any element of the story that is not fully explained and hence creates a mystery. We are going to use the Hermeneutic code within our music video to keep the audience engaged. In order to do this we will save the most revealing clips till the end.  The Proairetic Code - This code builds up tension and refers to any other action or event that indicates something else is going to happen, which gets the reader guessing as to what will happen next. The  Hermeneutic  and  Proairetic  Codes work as a pair to develop the story's tensions and keep the reader interested Within our music video we will try to incorporate this so the audience are kept guessing as to what is going to happen and the build up of tension will hopefully help create this effect. Semantic Code - This code refers to connotations within the video which give an additional meaning over the basic denotative meaning of the word. In our final music video we will try to highl

British Popmusic

Image
Britpop is a type of British Pop Music of the mid 1990's, that was typically influenced by the Beatles and many more artists. America were trending in the music industry with a genre named 'Alternative Rock'. This was similar to Britpop, meaning there was a lot of competition and rivalry within the charts. Oasis- They are an English Rock band formed in 1991. The band originally consisted of Liam and Noel Gllagher, Tony McCarroll and Paul Arthur. Oasis have had eight UK number-one singles and eight UK numbeer one-albums, and won fifteen NME Awards, nine Q awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards and six Brit awards. Though Britpop is seen retrospectively as a marketing tool, and more of a cultural moment than a musical style of genre, there are musical conventions and make influences the bands grouped under the Brit term have in common. By doing our research into Britpop and the industry we can see the stereotypes and different marketing tools which bands use in order

Survey Monkey

https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/S362RRD This has been conducted in order to help us develop more ideas and also get an idea of what is appropriate to our audience and we can also gain more knowledge and creative ideas in order to make positive progress with our work. It has allowed us to find out what Artists and use of editing that our audience enjoys watching and therefore we will be able to reflect this in our work.

Genre conventions of a music video

Image
In my research I found that Many music videos are low budget with an urban back drop to the artist performing in the video. By using a simple back drop the audience as it associates them with the music. This is an element I know that we can simply achieve, as we live amongst a similar environment therefore it is easily accessible and also we can create the same view.  Genre conventions of a music video are the most important to use when creating and planning a music video as they can help us reach higher grades and make the video look more proffessional and visually pleasing to the audience. How do we recognise this genre? Performance elements- It is important that we can try and replicate this for our final music video as  a variety of successful bands use this technique to show the links between the Britpop genre, Many bands also include this element as it suggests that it will help to improve the quality of their videos. Low-key lighting- We need to u

Narrative Theory

Image
Levi Strauss - Strauss came up with the idea of binary opposition and this is a pair of related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning and in structuralism, a binary opposition is seen as a fundamental organizer of human philosophy, culture and also language. Within, Noel Gallagher's song 'High Flying Birds' the woman in which is featured throughout starts in a very negative place and looks to be tortured by an evil person. However, the video quickly changes which also creates the illusion that she was drugged and then the shot quickly cuts to her in a much happier place. This shows the use of binary opposition as it shows someone in a negative place and then at the end of the video they are in a much better place. We can use Binary opposition within our music to show the differences between upper class and lower class or north and south. We can also gather data to see which bands people prefer. For example we can make a survey to see whether people enjoy list

SWOT Analysis

Image
Strength We listen to music in everyday life so therefore we know what we are looking for in a potentially good video and we are also very familiar with different styles and genres of music. It is rather easy to gather a target audience and ask other people of our age what they enjoy as we are in that age category. We are the Hollywood demographic of 15-24 year olds so therefore we know what to look out for. As individuals we are very unique, creative and listen to different types of music so when we come together as a collective is may come to our advantage and help us to decide on something. Due to our location, we have a massive range of different locations in which we can use when we do our filming. Weakness We unfortunately do not have someone who can sing for us at the moment however we are trying to contact a few up and coming singers to help us with our video and therefore they may be able to give us some advice when it co

conventions of music videos

Image
Codes and conventions are different things used within music videos to construct messages and meanings. These techniques can be divided into two types: technical and symbolic. Technical techniques show how the meaning is conveyed using technical equipment. This may include elements such as how the camera is used including types of angles and movements, different sound within the shot, whether its diegetic or non-diegetic or even fast or slow editing. Symbolic techniques are the ways of showing meaning beyond what is shown. It could be portrayed through the use of: mise-en-scene, facial expressions, body language and posture. It is very important to use codes and conventions within all music videos as it allows the audience to become familiar with particular genres. Sub-consciously they will eventually start to recognize the different types of conventions within the genre. It provides a structure to the video that the audience will understand and the video also compliments the lyr

Goodwin's theory

Image
After spending years analyzing music videos and the music industry, Andrew Goodwin put together a set of key features which apply to all music videos. Of course not all of the features are applied in every music video, however at least one feature included is either complimentary, contradicting or amplified. These features were illustrated in his book 'Dancing in the distraction Factory (1992). - Relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. -  Themes, mise-en-scene and events of the video match with lyrics of the song, to help to portray the message of the song. For example we need to link the lyrics that we use to the events that are portrayed in the video. In Oasis's music video 'supersonic' the lyrics of the song ultimately help to portray their feelings of loneliness and isolation, in the song they say ' I need to be myself, I can't be no one else ' Th is also means that they feel like they can't do anything right as everyone is alway

Richard Dyer star theory

Image
Firstly, Richard Dyer's star theory is the idea that institutions for their financial gain manufacture icons and celebrities. He also believes that stars are constructed to represent 'real people' experiencing real emotions. Stars are manufactured by the music industry to serve a purpose and to initially make money out of the audience CONSTRUCT:  Stars are artificial images constructed by the media and the representations that media portrays and feeds to the audience. This includes magazines, films, advertising or shows. Every time, the media can construct particular image of a star and use this to their advantage. Therefore, the audience never really meets the real star, however as a viewer, we want to believe that the representation/ construction is the real person, even if often that is not the case. This picture is a prime example of Liam Gallagher wearing unique clothing to gain attention and publicity. It could also be said that Oasis have single-
